swissnex: Switzerland’s knowledge network

swissnex is a network of science and technology outposts run by the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI), in close cooperation with the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA).

The SER currently handles five knowledge outposts:

swissnex Boston (2000)

swissnex San Francisco (2003)

swissnex Singapore (2004)

swissnex China (2007)

swissnex India (2009)

swissnex is a key component of the Swiss strategic policy on the promotion of education, research and innovation set by the Federal Council. Apart from Europe the U.S, India, China, Russia and South Africa are priority countries for bilateral cooperation given their proven potential for scientific and technological development. The network relies on public and private funding (one-third SERI, two-thirds from other sources). swissnex is now dedicated to expanding the group of sponsors and donors willing to support services, activities and events.

The Offices of the Swiss Science & Technology Counselors located within some Embassies of Switzerland around the world are a governmental information, promotion and bridging platform to support the international activities of the Swiss education, research and innovation landscape. The S&T Offices operate in synergy with academic, governmental and economic partners, and provide an integrated knowledge network.

Besides, the Swiss Science & Technology Counselors establish and maintain contacts with the administration, universities, research institutes, and the private sector in their countries of action. They stimulate cooperation projects in the area of university or industry research and development with a special focus on the transfer of technology and the mobility of researchers.
